I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. I’m Marsha Calloway-Campbell, and it’s with a heart full of excitement and a deep sense of purpose that I introduce myself to this vibrant community we are building together at Legacy Health Strategies.
My journey here is shaped by over 35 years of diverse experiences, spanning from practicing law to consulting in market research across many areas including healthcare. However, it’s the personal chapters of my life that have profoundly steered my path towards health advocacy and equity.
In 2017, my life took a major turn when my husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a disease that was unknown to us. Weeks later, we learned that the Black population is 2-3 times more likely than any other ethnic group to receive this diagnosis. Stepping into the role of caregiver, and eventually a health advocate, I learned the importance of resilience, strength in community, and the power and importance of knowledge. This experience led me to champion health equity, particularly in Black and Brown communities, by amplifying patient voices, tackling health disparities and making a commitment to raise awareness and to educate our underserved populations regarding diseases that affect us disproportionately.
It was our shared passion and commitment that brought me to Legacy. We are more than a team; we are a family united by the mission to empower individuals and families to cultivate a legacy of health. We understand the importance of addressing not just the physical, but also the mental and emotional wellness of our communities. It is this holistic approach that guides our purpose for “My Health. My Legacy.”
A critical part of our conversation will be the role of clinical research. Realizing that this has been a topic of discussion over the years, let’s finally come together to educate ourselves on the facts about clinical research and why we MUST participate in clinical trials. It’s another important way we can ensure a brighter, healthier future for generations to come.
I bring to this community not only my professional expertise but my personal commitment as a wife, mother, grandmother, and advocate. Inspired by my own journey, I am here to listen, to share, and to grow with you. Let’s work together towards stronger, healthier, and more inspired communities of color – building the legacy we’d love to live and the legacy we’d love to leave.
